Tigers finish fourth and Lady Tigers claim sixth place at MC Opener
  Sept. 3, 2016

The Jackson State men’s and women’s cross country teams opened the 2016 season at Mississippi College. The Tigers finished in fourth place and the Lady Tigers came in sixth.

On the men’s side Curtis James finished in eighth place, while Eclecius Franklin and Darrion Hampton finished 13th and 16th respectively.

“This was a good opening meet for us,” said men’s head coach Mark Thorne.

In women’s action, Sterline Silencieux finished 18th and Akeilia Knight came in 23rd place.

“I was pretty happy with our results overall, especially with the delayed start in our training,” said head coach Camille Ross. “With this meet under our belt, we have the parameters we need to work on for our next competition. Silencieux was our first athlete in with a time of 17:46.90 and Akeilia Knight was second in 18: 32.00. Neither were too happy with their performances, but now they both know the adjustments needed to get back on track. Our third runner in was freshman Mohogany Antoine (20:16.20). Her specialty is the 400m, but she looks to make great gains through cross country for track.”
